Kongo, C’est comment qu’on freine, 2024
From 3 to 16 november 2024
We are delighted to welcome the international artist Cyril Kongo for his new solo show "Trajectoire" at the Taglialatella Gallery starting October 3rd.
From a young age, the globetrotting artist became aware of the richness and opportunities the world had to offer. He explored the various countries and cultures that came his way, as an adventurer eager for experiences and discoveries to fuel his energy and creativity. Like an actor in his own destiny, with the need to move towards new inspirations, collaborations, and creations as his backdrop, the artist travels the world freely, discovering every corner as if encountering a new part of himself, guided by the desire for infinite exploration with limitless possibilities.
From the very beginning, cultural richness has been embedded in his DNA, with a French mother and a Vietnamese father. His life was marked by travel from an early age for family reasons, and it was after leaving childhood, when he settled in Congo with his mother, that he realized the profound impact a new country's culture and soul could have on him. This pivotal discovery became the essence of his life and even led him to adopt the moniker "Kongo" in homage to the country that revealed this richness to him.
For the artist, Congo represents a rebirth, a vibrant country where colors, emotions, and encounters intertwine, fueling his thirst for discovering new horizons.
"Trajectoire" is thus an invitation to travel, a tribute to all the cities around the world where the artist has laid down his suitcases, brushes, and projects: from Pointe-à-Pitre to Paris, via Singapore, Shanghai, Dallas, Hanoi, and Bali...
Bali, a land of welcome, colors, landscapes, offerings, generosity, and humanity, where the artist has established his studio for the past six years, is a fertile ground for artistic discoveries: new experiences, inspirations, and techniques that Kongo embraces and now wishes to share with his French audience.
"Trajectoire" is therefore an invitation to share this warm culture focused on gratitude, generosity, and known for its open-mindedness, this fascination with ancestral rituals, and this colorful life in an open-air museum.
For the occasion, the gallery transforms into Balinese soil, and Kongo offers his audience his experience through a multitude of mediums: small works in various materials, paintings on canvas, sculpted wood, drawings on paper, letters sculpted from recycled plastic after cleaning Balinese rivers, white stones, black sculpted stones... A magnificent, colorful, and rhythmic journey awaits the public starting October 3rd!
